VIOGNIER

AROMATIC AND COMPLEX

Bouteille viognier

AN EVENTFUL JOURNEY

The Viognier grape has travelled a long way since leaving its birthplace in the north of the Rhone Valley. It has experienced a turbulent history, almost facing extinction because of its low yields and the devastating Phylloxera crisis. This was before the serious involvement of committed winegrowers, who have given it a new lease on life over the last few years. It was first planted in vineyards in the south of France and then spread to the New World: South Africa, Australia and Argentina to name just a few.

THE APPEAL OF WARM TERROIRS

The Viognier grape appreciates warm climates and well-drained soils. It therefore comes as no surprise to see it quite at home in the Languedoc-Roussillon. It appears to be a cousin of the Nebbiolo grape, a dazzling variety from our Italian neighbours. It has brought its strong personality to captivating blends, but Roche Mazet alone has decided upon the expression of its potential and its exuberance in this cuvée.

THE WORK OF A GOLDSMITH

The pale yellow colour of Roche Mazet Viognier gives way to an expressive and rich nose, oscillating between aromas of yellow fruit and tropical fruit. Aged on fine lees for 2 to 3 months with gentle stirring, the wine gains in volume and complexity. It is remarkable on the palate. It is smooth because of its fruitiness, fresh because of its floral notes, and generous on the finish … a tasting full of sensations.

10° - 12°C

Served chilled between 10° and 12°C, this fragrant and full-bodied wine is powerful on its own as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to fish and seafood.
