The young blackbirds love it

The young blackbirds loved it so much that the name of the Merlot grape variety comes from the French “merle” meaning “blackbird”. It originated in the north of the Aquitaine region and is the most cultivated grape variety in France, but flourishes widely in other parts of the world, including North America, Chile and Italy. This very popular grape produces intense-coloured wines that are supple on the palate and have aromas of slightly candied red fruit.

Selection and expertise

Merlot is grown in hundreds of vineyards across the world, but it prospers in a very special way in Pays d’Oc, where the conditions are so widely varied. To make this varietal, Roche Mazet identified the best Merlot vineyards in Languedoc-Roussillon and blended fruit from the vineyard terraces together with grapes from cooler plots. A very thorough selection was carried out to ensure that this wine displays all the aromas characteristic of Merlot. Roche Mazet’s Merlot varietal is made with unique expertise and aged in wood to produce an outstanding taste worthy of the brand.

The roundness of great fruit

At first glance, Roche Mazet Merlot attracts the eye with its lovely intense almost dark red colour with purple and violet tints. It is elegant on the nose with aromas of fresh and jammy red fruit, and hints of cherry and blackberry. On the palate, the red fruit aromas team up with spicy and chocolate notes, wrapped up in velvety tannins. The slightly woody Merlot fruit is round and delicate and literally fills the mouth.

16°C

Served at 16°C (61°F), Roche Mazet Merlot is a perfectly accomplished wine that pairs admirably with aperitifs, cold meats, grilled red meat, roast poultry and mature cheeses, such as Cantal.
